Day of the Scourge from Rebel Minis now available

Rebel Minis has just released their new Day of the Scourge box set, with a downloadable mini campaign written by yours truly. The box comes with dozens of Scourge figures and a set of plucky human resistance/survivors. It was a fun little project, creating an invasion and survival scenario set for the Scourge — a “terminator” like horde of robotic killers that descended on the Earth. The mini-campaign is set in a post-apocalyptic California, but can be ported into whatever setting a player prefers.

NUTS World Without End released

Valkyrie Hull Prints in Hand

Valkyrie Hull Prints

I just got some rapid prototype hull prints of the 1/56th scale Valkyrie in hand from Shapeways. The Valkyrie has been designed in 3D courtesy of Shane Smith, and worked on through multiple edits to arrive at the final design. This set is for personal use and review, the final master is being printed via Moddler. Moddler is able to print incredibly detailed models, very impressive. We are using the same process for other vehicles currently in design. I’ll release more images as I work on these.

1/56th scale General Early Combat Walker

It’s official. Agis at AD Publishing made the rounds today to start talking about the 28mm Gear Krieg project that Brent Dietrich (Company B) and I are involved in. Company B co-founder Brent Dietrich and I have secured a license from Dream Pod 9 to produce their genre-making “Gear Krieg” alternate WW2 “Combat Walker” figures in 28mm scale. Gear Krieg is the original “hard science” Weird War setting that mixed fantastic technology with real human engineering to create a realistic, gritty Weird War 2 setting. The new product line will be called “Gears and Guts,” and will include 28mm Gear Krieg combat walkers and vehicles as well as other unique WW2-themed fantastic weapons, miniatures and accessories drawing from Company B’s unique and expansive line of 28mm compatible vehicle kits, accessories and miniatures.

We are also working with Agis Neugebauer at AD Publishing, he’s a master modeler and painter who has a supporting line of Gear Krieg supplements and game books.

NUTS! Weird War 2 first draft rules in playtest

Whew! The initial hard rules grinding for NUTS! Weird War 2 is done and now it’s time to try and break ‘em with playtesting. I’ve found that while what you’ve written is self-evidently brilliant and ground breaking (to yourself!), the real test is when someone not close to the rules takes a read and says “What is this gibberish!?!”

“Why, what do you mean?,” says the brilliant rules author.

“I can’t understand what these rules are supposed to do, this modifier chart is too complex, I don’t get why that unit does what it does, and what about this other rule that blows up the game by unbalancing the thing-a-ma-jingy charge against the whats-it-whose-it?”

“Oh,” says deflated less than brilliant rules author. “I hadn’t thought of that…”
